Leaning your engine - Stu McCurdy
no instruments - lean until missing and then 3 turns of verner back
w instruments/fuel injection -
taxi with it lean not to foul plugs run up checks with rich enough not to have problems full rich for take-off start leaning after 500 ft
with EGT on all 6 cylinders, look at each until they go up to peak EGT lycomming says best fuel economy do not exceed 75% power
best power (standard) 50-75 deg rich of peak
with a carberator, will get one cylinder thta will start to shudder
with FI, will get closer in all cylinders
work to 50 lean of peak, might get 75 or 100 50 lean of peak seems to be the accepted setting
75% 50 degrees rich, 8.6 GPH 75% 50 degrees lean, 6.8 GPH
at 1200 hours, had one cylinder that had some problems around one exhaust valve
with 4 new cylinders getting
now CHT goes above 400 (390 limit) when leaning to try to get to 50 lean of peak
turning off advance on magnetos reduces CHT about 20 degrees
best to have CHT/EGT all around fuel flow
Meeting adjourned at 8:55 p.m.
