Local Member Passes Away 2/19/2008
It is with great sorrow that I must report that Jim Newman, a longtime member of EAA187 past away last night.
Before his failing health, Jim was a very active homebuilder and member of EAA187. He built a Smith Miniplane and a Glastar and did a major resortation of a Champ. Jim also was a past chapter officer and Tech Counselor. He was a good friend to all...
A memorial service for Jim will be held at the Pilot’s Choice hangar at 10am on March 1, 2008.

Update: Obituary
James E. Newman has “Gone West”. God took him on his final flight after a heart attack took him quickly and unexpectedly on February 15, 2008. Jim was born to William and Katie Newman of Austin, Texas on July 7, 1925. He grew up in Austin and graduated from Austin High School in 1943.
After high school he joined the Army Air Corp and, after completing flight training, became a flight instructor. After the war he started a boat building business with his brother Bill. He later owned a construction company and a lumber yard. He eventually ended up with the State Comptroller’s office where he retired in 1987. Jim’s love of aviation continued throughout his life.
He was an active member of the Experimental Aircraft Association where he built and flew many different airplanes. He was best known by most current members in his “mentoring” role for their homebuilding projects. He is survived by his wife, friend and companion, Beverly Newman, his two daughters, Donna Huntsberry of Plano, Texas and Amy Newman of Pasadina, Texas and his grandchildren, Ashley and Mark Huntsberry. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, William and Katie Newman, his brothers Bill Newman and Bruce Newman, and his wife Jo Helen “Jody” Newman. A memorial service will be held for Jim Newman at the place where he loved to spend his free time, the Georgetown Municipal Airport.
