EAA CHAPTER 187
Minutes of meeting November 13, 2008
The meeting was opened at 7.15 PM by the Chapter President Rob Reese with 26 attendees.
New Business:
A discussion of location for January banquet and first flight awards ceremony . An attendance of 25 to 30 persons should be expected. A committee was appointed to investigate possibilities and report at the December meeting.
A list needs to be developed for those to be awarded first flight plaques for 2008. It was unanimously approved be the membership that these awardees must be “active” members of the chapter.
Rob Reese requested suggestions for programs for future meetings. Suggestions were a GPS demo by Gary Hamilton and for a contact to be made with the EAA home office for additional ideas.
Gary Hamilton suggested that we place a group photo on the Website.
Stu McCurdy suggested that we plan a quarterly flyout on a regular basis for chapter members.
Program:
Stu McCurdy provided an excellent review of the ground school and flight training he provides on “Basics of formation flying” for RV aircraft and pilots.
The school runs for two weekend days at Brownwood on a scheduled basis. The training is based on the T34 formation flight manual with a supplement for RV aircraft. A 3 ½ hr. ground school is followed by flight training with safety pilots. The completed training qualifies pilots are issued FFI formation flying cards.

Stu is planning an extensive formation flight display at EAA Oskosh in 2009 which is expected to include RVs and Bonanzas .
