Hello Chapter Members and Friends,

It was great to see so many people at the Hangar Hop at Hangar Row C at GTU, sponsored by Deene Ogden with his RV-12 (light sport), Bill Farmer with his Super Cub (light sport), Mike Robbins with his Debonair and Bobby Lucroy with his RV-8A built by Seth Hancock. There were 26 people including a Boy Scout Troop 5 member and his father. Great big thanks go to Dan Badwey who is the co-owner of the Debonair with Mike for contacting and setting up. Each owner had interesting facts and history to share and it was hard to move the group to the next hangar.

The first thought to have a picnic in December was "Brrrr" but then I thought BBQ will fix that. When the weather forecast said it might be rainy, "Soup and Bread" sounded perfect. Gary Hamilton and Bob Elliot brought the perfect yummy soup and beef stew and Rob Reese well tended BBQ brisket (15 hours in the making), flaky and moist. I am always willing to make Haruko’s special salad! Some people kindly brought Christmas cookies and Luke’s brownies were consumed eagerly by everyone. There were 35 people at the picnic. Thank you for volunteering the food for the picnic and especially your time making them. By the way, I didn’t run into anything and all the stitches are out now. Thank you for your concerns. The EAA Chapter renewal is finished and we are ready to start the new year, 2015!

We need the following to start our new year now:

Dues

Our Chapter 187 membership drive is still ongoing and we have received the dues from 30 members. The membership fee is $35/person/year which could cover our rentals, activities, other regular chapter expenses and finally name tags! The membership covers from January through December. Please send your dues to our treasurer, Rob Reese at 8100 Ephraim Rd. Austin TX 78717 or use the PayPal. Thank you for your prompt response.

Newsletter, "Tale Winds"

We need an editor/writer or reporter and editor combination. Currently one member is volunteering to be an editor/compiler but she will need a reporter to give her the news materials. It has been pretty difficult to collect the articles for the newsletter and we need your help if you would like to keep our newsletter published. Please let me know as soon as you can if you have any interest. This is your opportunity!

Annual Banquet

When: Saturday, January 24 at 6:00 p.m.
Where: Romano’s Macaroni Grill at 9828 Great Hills Trail, Austin 78759
Cost: $32 / person

To pre-pay, please use the PayPal button on the front page.

First Flight Plaques

First flight plaques will be presented at the annual banquet. Those builders who had first flights in 2014, please provide, by January 9th, the information to Rob Reese (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.), including (as you want it it to appear on the plaque):

  • Builder's name(s)
  • Aircraft Type
  • First flight date and location (airport)

Chapter Monthly Meeting

The second Thursday of the month in 2015

We have received about the equal votes for the Chapter monthly meeting dates and most of the people were able to come any date. Since we had Tuesdays this year, let’s have Thursdays this coming year to see if attendance will increase. Thank you to Brad Bellamy who always takes care of the reservations for the Library meeting room.

No regular meeting in January at the Wells Branch Library because of the Banquet.
Have a wonderful holiday season and enjoy many blessings in your life!

Best Regards.
Haruko Reese
