Hello EAA Chapter Members and Friends,

Spring is here and what a wonderful time to fly a kite...um, your plane! There are many Fly-Ins planned everywhere in TX. Our Chapter Young Eagles Rally is scheduled on Saturday, May 30th at 9:00 a.m. at Rockdale Airport (KRCK) along with Rockdale Tiger Flight Open House. Please volunteer for pilots and ground. You can see the kids building project of an RV-6 in person. It is exciting to see the High School and Middle School students learning how to build an airplane. The details are found at eaa187.org and rockdaletigerflight.org. This RV-6 Project will also be displayed at Austin Mini Maker Faire on Saturday, May 16 and Sunday, May 17, at 10:00 a.m. at Palmer Event Center in Austin. Chapter members can volunteer for this event also. It is an exciting time of the year!

It has been a few years, but this was in "Short Final" on AvWeb:

My neighbor spent most of his career as an airline pilot, but he also did one stint during a furlough in the early 1980s as a controller at Van Nuys. He swears the following is true.

One day, my friend, who we'll call Bob (since that's his name), was reading a clearance to an an aircraft as an MU-2 (high-wing twin) was landing. The other controller prodded Bob and said, "Look at this." The MU-2 had landed but was having trouble taxiing, despite applying plenty of power. "I think our brakes have locked up," radioed one of the crew. "Can you look us over and tell us if you see anything?

"Do you want to tell them or should I?" asked the other controller."You tell them," replied Bob, grabbing a pair of binoculars. "I want to see their faces when you tell them that the gear is up.

That’s not why they always have a pair of binoculars in the ATC tower, is it? We met the Georgetown Municipal Airport Tower manager, Mr. Jeff Wilson and the Airport manager, Mr. Russ Volk in our meeting last month and it was great to get to know them personally and hear their plans at GTU. The wish list is long but it will take time because of allocating the funds for each. It was explained how the funding works for all these projects that are planned in the future. Hope all good things will come in a timely manner.

I am looking forward to seeing all of you at the Chapter Picnic on Saturday, May 9 at 10:00 a.m. at Georgetown Municipal Airport (GTU). We can get out of the library, wonderful weather, Hangar Hop at the Longhorn Jet Center hangar and delicious food! There are all the reasons you would like to come to our activity next week. Please mark your calendar of all these events.

Happy Flying Season to you all!
